Fallow Buck on frozen heath

This was one of those mornings that we wildlife photographers wish we could summon all winter with early morning golden rays of sun falling onto ground turned white from a hard frost.

This image was taken at Latchmore Bottom near the village of Frogham in the north-west corner of the New Forest, a lovely area with a variety of different landscapes. The Fallow Deer are often to be found in the early morning moving along the course of the stream (Latchmore Brook) which runs along the valley so as to avoid being conspicuous on the higher ground to either side.

I wanted to catch a sense of the motion of the running deer so used a slightly slower than typical shutter speed of 1/160 to blur the legs whilst panning with the animal to keep the rest of the body sharp.
