Broad Bodied Chaser

The Broad Bodied Chaser is a readily identifiable species of dragonfly which is common across much of the UK. It’s chunky appearance gives it its name, it’s fatter than the Keeled Skimmer, which it can be confused with, but the tell tale yellow patches along the side of the abdomen are another good clue to its identity.

This is also a very visible species of dragonfly, it patrols a pond or stream in a busy manner and, like the Keeled Skimmer, returns to the same perch repeatedly, making it an easy species to photography by getting in position with the camera pre-focussed to await its return.
